About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Shunter Driver Leader to join our Transport team.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be responsible for coordinating all on-site shunting activities, leading the shunter team and ensuring trailers are positioned efficiently to support warehouse and production operations.

You'll spend time both in the transport office and out on site, ensuring operations run smoothly, communicating with multiple departments and responding quickly to changing priorities. Key Responsibilities

As Shunter Driver Leader, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the shunter team.
  • Plan and prioritise trailer movements across the site.
  • Ensure trailers are positioned in the right place at the right time to support warehouse and production operations.
  • Maintain sufficient availability of empty trailers.
  • Keep trailer tracking systems updated to provide accurate, real-time information.
  • Monitor trailer locations and maintain accurate site records.
  • Complete detailed shift handovers to ensure continuity between shifts.
  • Allocate and rotate shunting vehicles while maintaining fleet availability.
  • Monitor driver performance and provide guidance and support where required.
  • Conduct routine compliance and vehicle exit checks.
  • Ensure load security procedures are followed at all times.
  • Liaise with Warehouse, Production and Transport teams to coordinate daily operations.
  • Produce weekly operational reports for the Logistics Manager.
  • Manage the shunter team rota, including holiday planning and ensuring adequate shift cover.
  • Promote safe working practices and drive high operational standards across the team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  1. Previous experience within transport, logistics or shunting operations.
  2. Strong organisational and planning skills.
  3. The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy operational environment.
  4. Previous experience leading or supervising a team, or the confidence to step into a leadership role.
  5. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  6. Confidence managing performance issues and difficult conversations professionally.
  7. Good IT skills and experience maintaining operational records or tracking systems.
  8. A strong understanding of transport safety and compliance.
  9. A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.

Experience within manufacturing, warehouse or distribution environments and knowledge of trailer management systems would be advantageous.

Working Hours

This position operates on a shift pattern. Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential. There may be occasions where you'll be required to work up to two additional hours to provide leadership cover during the absence of the opposite shift's Shunter Driver Leader, ensuring continuity across the operation.
