Shunter Driver Location: Teesside (Busy Port Environment) Start Date: 22nd September 2026 (subject to change due to weather and vessel schedules) Duration: 12-Day Contract Pay Rates

  • Days: £16.00 per hour
  • Nights: £24.00 per hour
  • Saturday: £24.00 per hour (until midnight)
  • Saturday after midnight: £32.00 per hour
  • Sunday Nights: £32.00 per hour

Shift Pattern

  • 06:00 - 18:00
  • 18:00 - 06:00
  • 12-hour shifts covering days, nights, and weekends
  • Candidates must be flexible and available for the duration of the contract
  • Additional work may be available for the right candidates

About the Role
We are currently recruiting experienced Tug Drivers / Shunter Drivers to support operations within a busy port environment in the Teesside area.
The role involves the safe movement of trailers, containers, and bulk products across operational areas within the port. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with previous tug, shunting, trailer, container, or HGV driving experience who are looking to work within a fast-paced and dynamic port operation.
Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tug and shunt vehicles safely within the port.
  • Move trailers, containers, and bulk products between operational areas.
  • Connect and disconnect trailers as required.
  • Complete vehicle safety inspections before and after each shift.
  • Follow all site and port Health & Safety procedures.
  • Liaise with operational teams to ensure the efficient movement of cargo.
  • Report vehicle defects and safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a professional and safety-focused approach at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Tug Driver, Shunter Driver, Yard Shunter, or HGV Driver.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with no major endorsements.
  • Own transport and ability to travel reliably to site.
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and public holidays if required.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety within transport, logistics, industrial, or port environments.
  • Successful completion of a site driving assessment before commencement.
  • Ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol test.
  • Attendance at a site induction prior to starting.

Desirable Experience

  • Container haulage experience.
  • Trailer movement or yard shunting experience.
  • Previous experience within a port, terminal, logistics, or transport operation.
  • Experience handling bulk products.
  • Experience working to strict operational deadlines.
