Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor operating across Wales, the English border counties, and the West of England. They deliver projects in infrastructure, highways & bridges, rail, utilities, water management, geotechnical works and more.
Role Purpose
As Site Agent, you will lead and manage the on-site delivery of civil engineering and rail projects. You will ensure projects are executed safely, on time, to quality standards, and within commercial parameters — while also leading the site team, subcontractors, and managing client/ stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the site team through mobilisation, construction, to hand-over, ensuring safe and efficient delivery.
- Manage compliance with health, safety, environment, quality (HSQE) procedures, including risk assessments, method statements, and SHEQ standards.
- Plan, manage and deliver site programmes — ensuring milestones and project deliverables are met.
- Oversee subcontractor procurement, coordination, and performance; manage subcontractor packages appropriately.
- Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships — representing Griffiths on site, ensuring good communication, commercial transparency, and client satisfaction.
- Manage financial and commercial performance of assigned schemes — monitor cost, margin, programme risk/opportunities, and deliver target gross-site margins.
- Lead the site team — motivate, develop, and manage staff and subcontractors; ensure individuals’ performance and competencies align with project demands.
Person Specification – Required / Desirable Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in civil engineering or infrastructure construction projects (e.g. highways, drainage, utilities, rail, general civils).
- Strong leadership and team-management skills — ability to lead a site team, subcontractors, and ensure accountability.
- Sound commercial awareness — understanding budgets, margins, cost control, subcontractor packages and delivery performance.
- Good knowledge of HSQE, site safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Strong organisational, planning and communication skills — able to coordinate multiple activities, stakeholders, deadlines.
- Relevant site-certifications & qualifications (e.g. CSCS, SMSTS, or equivalent; First Aid and/or Temporary Works Coordinator desirable — depending on project scope).
- Ideally comes from a technical background for tenders, work winning, programming jobs/ write programmes etc
Desirable:
- Civil engineering qualification (HNC/HND or Degree) or equivalent experience.
- Experience with highways/roads, drainage, surfacing or railway-related projects (rail civil, structures etc).
- Familiarity with NEC or similar contract forms and understanding of contract compliance and change control.
