Site Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Main Civil Works Section.

What will you do?

The CWA is recruiting directly for a Site Engineer – Metal to support stainless steel welding and fabrication activities. Working within a supplier’s facility or across the CWA’s self-delivered site works, the successful candidate will help ensure that fabrication is completed safely, efficiently and in line with programme and quality requirements. This is a practical, site-focused opportunity. The Site Engineer will spend a significant proportion of each shift working alongside fabrication teams and a multidisciplinary workforce, providing engineering guidance and helping maintain product compliance, welding efficiency and production performance. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Producing task briefing sheets and method statements, and delivering the associated workforce briefings
  • Completing safety inspections, identifying hazards and contributing to safe systems of work
  • Interpreting drawings, schedules and specifications, and producing sketches containing set-out information
  • Maintaining survey and measuring equipment, including relevant registers and testing arrangements
  • Preparing as-built drawings, quality check sheets and handover information to LTQR standards
  • Keeping accurate site records, including daily diaries, photographs and records of discussions
  • Monitoring performance against the weekly programme and helping produce KPI and progress information
  • Recording labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs, and reconciling material usage
  • Identifying additional work and reporting actual resourcing against budget
  • Highlighting issues that could affect safe production and working with the workforce and line manager to develop practical solutions.

What are we looking for?

The CWA is looking for a proactive engineer who can balance safety, quality, programme and commercial priorities in a live fabrication or construction environment. Candidates should have:
  • An HNC, HND or degree in a relevant discipline, or suitable site experience within construction or fabrication
  • The ability to explain safe systems of work clearly and ensure that requirements are understood and followed
  • Experience working across operational and commercial priorities to resolve problems
  • Knowledge of recognised project management principles and methodologies
  • A valid CSCS card and full UK driving license
  • Flexibility to work away from home where required
  • The ability to meet security-vetting requirements, which ordinarily include UK residency for at least three of the previous five years.
Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Welding and stainless steel fabrication
  • Nuclear construction, including experience gained on Hinkley Point C or another EPR programme
  • Budgetary control and wider commercial awareness
  • Taking ownership of tasks, working independently and communicating outcomes clearly
