Site Engineer

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join a well-established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality projects across the water, environmental, highways, infrastructure, and groundworks sectors.

The business is recognised for delivering complex civil engineering schemes including drainage, pipelines, reinforced concrete structures, flood defence works, utilities, highways, and large-scale infrastructure projects. With a strong reputation for technical excellence and a collaborative approach, this is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced site team on a busy project in Bristol.

The Role

As Setting Out Engineer, you will be responsible for all engineering and surveying duties on site, ensuring works are completed accurately, safely, and in accordance with project specifications. You will support the delivery of a civil engineering package, working closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager, and subcontractors to maintain programme and quality standards.

This role will involve setting out a variety of civil engineering works including drainage, foundations, reinforced concrete structures, utilities, earthworks, roads, kerbing, ducting, and associated infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out all setting out duties using GPS and Total Station equipment.

Interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.

Set out foundations, drainage, reinforced concrete works, utilities, roads, and associated civil engineering infrastructure.

Produce accurate as-built surveys and maintain engineering records.

Support quality assurance processes, inspections, and ITP documentation.

Work closely with subcontractors to ensure works are delivered to specification.

Provide technical support to the site management team.

Monitor progress and assist with programme delivery.

Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality compliance.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer within civil engineering or groundworks.

Strong understanding of surveying and engineering principles.

Experience working on drainage, reinforced concrete, utilities, or infrastructure projects.

Ability to work independently and manage engineering responsibilities on site.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.
