We are working with a well-established main contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Site Manager to join the team on the construction of a new-build supermarket in East London.
The project consists of the delivery of a large steel frame retail unit, associated external works and infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for managing day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Site Manager with a proven track record delivering new-build commercial or retail developments, particularly projects involving structural steel frames.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the day-to-day delivery of the new-build supermarket project.
- Oversee the erection of the structural steel frame and subsequent construction packages.
- Coordinate subcontractors across groundworks, steel frame, cladding, roofing, internal fit-out and external works.
- Ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with the construction programme.
- Monitor progress, identify programme risks and implement solutions to maintain key milestones.
- Carry out quality inspections and ensure all works meet client specifications.
- Enforce health, safety and environmental standards across the site.
- Coordinate plant, materials and site logistics.
- Work closely with the Project Manager, Engineers and commercial team to ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain accurate site records, RAMS, permits and daily reports.
The successful candidate will have previous experience delivering new-build commercial or retail projects from the ground up, with strong knowledge of structural steel frame construction.
You will have:
- Previous experience as a Site Manager working for a main contractor.
- Experience managing steel frame construction projects.
- Strong understanding of build sequencing, temporary works and subcontractor management.
- Experience coordinating multiple trades and maintaining programme.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive approach with a strong focus on health & safety and quality.
