About the RoleWe are looking for a Site Manager to oversee a school refurbishment project in Wolverhampton. This role involves managing the refurbishment of the staff room, roofing works and the installation of automatic gates. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all activities are carried out safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, organise and manage all site activities related to the school refurbishment project.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including site inductions and regular safety inspections.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and stakeholders to maintain smooth workflow and timely delivery.
- Monitor progress against project plans and schedules, identifying and resolving any issues promptly.
- Supervise site staff and contractors, ensuring effective communication and adherence to project requirements.
- Maintain accurate site records including daily reports, site diaries and risk assessments.
- Manage quality control processes to ensure all works meet specification and standards.
- Oversee the safe handling and disposal of asbestos materials in line with regulatory standards.
- Implement and maintain fire safety procedures, acting as Fire Marshall on site.
- Report regularly to the project manager or client on site progress and any issues arising.
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
- Valid First Aid qualification.
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
- Fire Marshall training.
- Asbestos Awareness certification.
- Relevant construction or civil engineering qualification preferred.
- Proven experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry, preferably on refurbishment projects.
- Experience managing roofing works and installation of automatic gates is advantageous.
- Demonstrable experience in health and safety compliance on construction sites.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and legal regulations.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers.
- Competent in the use of site management software and basic IT applications.
- Ability to identify risks and implement appropriate control measures.
- The role involves working on an active construction site with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Full-time hours are expected, with flexibility to manage project demands.
- Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times on site.
- Occasional requirement to work outside normal hours to meet project deadlines.
- The site is located within Wolverhampton, with travel within the West Midlands as necessary.
