An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Civil Engineering Site Supervisor to join an established and growing civils and groundworks contractor on a major project at South Dock Marina, London.

The contractor is delivering the civil engineering and groundworks package alongside a major main contractor under an NEC4 subcontract.

The package covers a broad range of works including site clearance, bulk and detailed excavation, surface water and foul drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete structures, substation works, block paving and asphalt surfacing.

The Role

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will provide front-line supervision of the civils and groundworks gangs, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, to programme and to the required quality standards.

You will supervise directly employed operatives and subcontractor gangs working across excavation, drainage, reinforced concrete, utilities, paving and associated groundworks.

You will allocate daily tasks, monitor productivity against the short-term programme and work closely with the Site Manager and Site Engineer to maintain progress across the project.

Health and safety will form a key part of the position. You will ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS, deliver daily briefings and POWRAs and enforce exclusion zones and safe systems of work at the workface.

You will undertake point-of-work safety and quality checks and support excavation inspections, permit-to-dig procedures and temporary works checks.

Working closely with the Site / Setting-Out Engineer, you will check setting-out, levels and dimensions before and during works, identifying and reporting any defects or discrepancies and ensuring corrective action is taken where required.

You will coordinate plant, labour, materials and deliveries at the workface while maintaining high standards of housekeeping and environmental control, including the management of dust, silt, spills and waste segregation.

Accurate site records will be maintained using InnDex, including daily records, inspections and briefing registers. You will report progress, issues and near-misses directly to the Site Manager.

You will also support the project's Inspection & Test Plan, helping to arrange and witness inspections and testing including concrete pours, drainage air and water tests, CCTV surveys and CBR testing.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should have hands-on supervisory experience within civil engineering and groundworks and be confident managing operatives and subcontractor gangs on a busy construction site.

You should have practical experience across drainage, reinforced concrete structures, excavation and muckshift, utilities and paving or external works.

A strong understanding of site health and safety, quality control and the day-to-day management of groundworks operations is essential.

Candidates must hold a valid SSSTS qualification, CSCS Supervisor Card and First Aid at Work certification, together with the right to work in the UK.

Additional qualifications including SMSTS, CITB Temporary Works Supervisor, NRSWA Streetworks and Confined Spaces would be advantageous.

Relevant CPCS or NPORS plant tickets would also be beneficial.

The Opportunity
