About Senapt
Senapt is looking for an experienced Smart Meter Technical Specialist to join our team and support the deployment, integration, commissioning and ongoing technical operation of smart metering solutions across projects in Africa and the Middle East.
This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong professional with substantial experience in electrical metering and smart metering technologies, who is comfortable working in international and multicultural environments.
The successful candidate will be primarily based in Liberia, with travel to project locations in the Middle East and other international markets as required.
The Role
As Smart Meter Technical Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring that smart metering systems are successfully deployed, configured, commissioned and maintained.
You will work closely with internal teams, technology partners, utilities, contractors and customers to resolve technical issues and ensure projects meet required technical and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the technical delivery and deployment of smart metering and AMI projects.
- Configure, install, test and commission smart meters and associated communications equipment.
- Support Meter Data Management (MDM), Head-End Systems (HES) and related smart metering platforms.
- Troubleshoot meter, communications and system integration issues.
- Diagnose problems involving RF, cellular, PLC and other smart meter communication technologies.
- Perform technical testing, fault finding and root-cause analysis.
- Support field teams and contractors during installation and commissioning activities.
- Monitor system performance and identify potential technical issues before they affect operations.
- Work with manufacturers and technology partners to resolve hardware and software issues.
- Produce technical reports, installation documentation, test results and commissioning records.
- Assist with integration between smart metering infrastructure and utility/customer systems.
- Provide technical guidance and training to field engineers and other project personnel.
- Support acceptance testing, site surveys and technical assessments.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with relevant technical, safety and quality requirements.
- Travel internationally to support project implementation, particularly within the Middle East.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related electrical engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in electrical metering & minimum 3 years experience working specifically within smart metering / Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) environments.
- Demonstrable experience in the installation, configuration, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of smart meters.
- Practical experience working with AMI systems and associated communications infrastructure.
- Experience working with Head-End Systems (HES), Meter Data Management (MDM) systems or related smart metering platforms.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of smart metering technologies, testing knowledge and AMI architecture.
- Practical knowledge of smart meter communications technologies, including GPRS/4G/5G, RF mesh, PLC or similar.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve meter, communications and system integration faults. As well as the ability to read and interpret technical specifications, wiring diagrams and system documentation.
- Strong analytical, fault-finding and root-cause analysis skills.
- Good understanding of electricity distribution and metering environments.
- Strong IT and technical documentation skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience delivering large-scale smart meter or AMI rollouts, also within utility, electricity distribution or energy sector projects.
- Knowledge of revenue protection and electricity loss reduction programmes.
- Experience with AMI system integration and data interfaces/APIs, remote meter monitoring, diagnostics and configuration, coordinationg configuration, remote meter monitoring, diagnostics and configuration, coordinating contractors and field engineering teams.
- Professional engineering registration or relevant industry certifications.
