Social Value Manager / Social Value Officer – Construction

A well-established and growing construction contractor based in Barking is looking to recruit a Social Value Manager / Social Value Officer / Community Impact Manager to join its team.

The company delivers construction, refurbishment and planned maintenance projects across London and the South East, predominantly within the social housing sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Social Value professional with construction or social housing experience to join a growing business and play a key role in delivering meaningful social value and community impact across a range of projects.

The company is open to candidates at different levels, so this could suit an experienced Social Value Manager, an established Social Value Officer looking for their next step, or a Community Impact Manager with relevant construction-sector experience.

The Role – Social Value Manager / Social Value Officer

Working across projects throughout London and the South East, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and reporting on social value initiatives.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Contracts Managers, Pre-Construction teams, clients, housing associations, local authorities, residents, schools, charities and community organisations to identify opportunities and ensure social value commitments are successfully delivered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver Social Value Plans across construction and social housing projects.
  • Work with project and pre-construction teams to identify social value opportunities at tender and mobilisation stages.
  • Deliver social value commitments throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, residents, local authorities, housing associations and community organisations.
  • Develop local employment, apprenticeships, work experience, training and skills development opportunities.
  • Coordinate school, college and community engagement initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with local charities, community groups and voluntary organisations.
  • Organise community events, careers fairs, volunteering and fundraising activities.
  • Identify opportunities to support local businesses and the local supply chain.
  • Monitor, measure and report on social value targets and outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and evidence of social value delivery.
  • Prepare regular social value reports and updates for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Support tender submissions, social value responses and bid documentation.
  • Produce social value case studies and evidence of project impact.
  • Work with operational teams to ensure contractual social value commitments are achieved.
  • Identify local community needs and develop initiatives that create meaningful and measurable outcomes.
  • Support the continued development of the company's wider Social Value and Community Impact strategy.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have experience within Social Value, Community Investment, Community Engagement, Community Development or a similar position, preferably within the construction, social housing, property or facilities management sectors.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience delivering social value within construction or social housing.
  • Experience developing and delivering Social Value Plans.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Experience working with clients, local authorities, housing associations and community organisations.
  • Experience delivering employment, apprenticeship, education, training or community initiatives.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience measuring and reporting social value outputs and outcomes.
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to community engagement.
  • The ability to work independently while also working closely with operational and project teams.

Knowledge or experience of Social Value TOMs, PPN 002, HACT, Social Value Portal, local authority social value requirements or client-specific social value frameworks would be highly advantageous.
