The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Software Developer / Software Development Engineer with strong Java and Spring Boot experience to join a growing Digital Technology team within a well-established UK organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the APIs and Java-based microservices that underpin critical digital platforms, while contributing to the evolution of a modern cloud-based technology environment.

You'll be part of a collaborative Agile squad, working alongside Tech Leads, Architects, Analysts, Scrum Masters and Product Owners to design, build, test and deliver high-quality software that provides real value to customers.

As a Software Developer - API & Microservices, you'll:

• Design, develop and maintain REST APIs and Java Spring Boot microservices

• Build and enhance services that support key digital platforms

• Develop automated unit and integration testing to ensure software quality

• Contribute to automated CI/CD build and deployment pipelines

• Implement monitoring and operational capabilities for applications and services

• Participate in and lead peer reviews across code, documentation and testing

• Work with technical and product stakeholders to understand requirements and carry out impact analysis

• Contribute to solution design, estimation and technical planning

• Ensure solutions align with current architecture and development standards

• Help shape future technology and infrastructure requirements

• Support continuous improvement and innovation across the development team

• Participate in an out-of-hours support rota for critical services

You'll have hands-on commercial experience developing applications using Java and Spring Boot, together with an interest in modern digital and cloud technologies.

Ideally, you'll have experience with some of the following:

• Java

• Spring Boot

• RESTful API design

• API Gateway technologies

• Microsoft Azure

• Docker

• Kubernetes / container orchestration

• CI/CD and automated build pipelines

• Git or other modern version control platforms

• Automated unit and integration testing

• Agile / Scrum development methodologies

You don't need to have experience with every technology listed. We're particularly interested in developers who have a strong Java/Spring Boot foundation and are keen to continue developing their skills across APIs, microservices and cloud technologies.
