Role Summary:
Our client is seeking a Solar PV Trainer & Installations Supervisor /Manager to lead by example and help raise installation standards across the business. The ideal candidate will have progressed from a qualified electrician into installation management, bringing strong Solar PV expertise and a genuine passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing installation teams.
This is a unique dual-role position combining Solar PV training delivery (50%) with installation supervision and compliance management (50%).
Key Responsibilities
Solar PV Training & Development (50%)
- Deliver Solar PV training courses covering both theoretical and practical installation skills.
- Develop and maintain course materials, lesson plans and assessment criteria.
- Assess learner competency through practical demonstrations, written assessments and simulated installation activities.
- Maintain learner records, attendance registers and achievement documentation.
- Ensure training equipment, tools and facilities remain safe and operational.
- Keep training content aligned with current MCS standards, BS 7671 regulations and industry best practice.
- Support training centre activities, including open days and learner engagement initiatives.
Installation Supervision & Compliance (50%)
Quality Assurance
Review completed installation job packs to ensure compliance with design specifications, industry regulations and company procedures.
Identify, record and categorise installation defects.
Ensure photographic evidence and project documentation meet required standards.
Compliance & Technical Auditing
Verify installations comply with BS 7671, MCS requirements and EV Charging Codes of Practice.
Review system designs against completed installations.
Validate commissioning documentation and technical records.
Site Inspections & Audits
Conduct site inspections and installation audits across Solar PV, Battery Storage, EV Charging and Heat Pump projects.
Produce detailed inspection reports identifying areas for improvement.
Provide practical demonstrations and guidance to installation teams where required.
Continuous Improvement & Coaching
Deliver toolbox talks and on-site coaching sessions.
Support the development of installation best practice documentation.
Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
Work closely with Contracts Managers, engineers and operational teams to improve installation quality.
Documentation & Audit Support
Maintain compliance records and defect tracking systems.
Support preparation for internal and external audits.
Ensure project documentation is complete, accurate and securely stored.
Required Experience / Qualifications:
Essential
- Fully qualified Electrician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Proven hands-on experience installing Solar PV systems.
- Strong understanding of BS 7671 and MCS standards.
- Experience with renewable energy technologies including Solar PV, Battery Storage and EV Charging.
- Confident delivering technical training and presentations to groups.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.
- Ability to identify defects and implement corrective actions.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between office and site locations.
Desirable
- Experience conducting installation inspections, audits or quality checks.
- Award in Education & Training (AET), A1 Assessor Award, or willingness to work towards a training qualification.
- Previous experience mentoring apprentices, trainees or field engineers.
