Solution Developer
Location: Filton, Bristol
Contract: 12 months | Onsite: 5 days per week | Clearance: SC required to start but not required to apply.
Rate: £53.73/hour PAYE or £72.54/hour Umbrella
Restrictions: Subject to ITAR and UK Eyes Only

A leading organisation within the Defence & Security sector is seeking a Solution Developer to join an engineering team based in Filton (Bristol). This is a lab-based integration role, ideal for candidates with a strong background in systems integration, communications systems engineering, and networking. Engineers with Tactical Data Link (TDL) experience (particularly Link 16 / VMF) are of strong interest. The role aligns well with ex-military personnel or those who have operated in a military environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate hardware and software components into tactical military communication systems
  • Support the Solution Architect with system architecture and lower-level designs
  • Develop and integrate communication systems against agreed designs
  • Perform unit testing and debugging in support of verification and validation
  • Support test definition and execution with the test function
  • Work with engineering and project stakeholders to deliver requirements into solutions
  • Engage with the customer's TDL SME to ensure coherence across the user base
  • Support customer events including testing, acceptance, and demonstrations


Essential Skills / Experience

  • Systems integration within complex technical environments
  • Communications systems engineering and networking capability
  • Windows/Linux management systems (including provisioning Android devices)
  • ATAK plugin/application integration and test exposure
  • Working knowledge of JSON, Command Prompt, and PowerShell
  • Tactical Data Links: Link 16 and VMF
  • Tactical radios (HF, VHF, UHF, MESH, MANET), primarily dismounted
  • TCP/IP fundamentals supporting MANET-focused communication plans
  • Tooling such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting/deployment skills (field experience desirable)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
