About Us
Aqua Robson Academy is a specialist school dedicated to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Everything we do is guided by our core belief: Building Strong Connections and Fostering Social Skills. We see meaningful relationships, emotional understanding, and social confidence as the foundation of every learner’s success, well-being and ability to thrive. We are looking for an expert, inspiring SENCO to join our team and lead our provision to new levels of excellence.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled, passionate and strategic SENCO to lead and continuously improve our SEND provision.
As SENCO, you will play a central role in shaping inclusive practice across the academy, ensuring that all pupils receive high-quality, personalised support that leads to measurable progress, increased independence and positive long-term outcomes.
You will work closely with the Headteacher, staff, families, governors and external professionals to ensure compliance with statutory duties, including the SEND Code of Practice and Independent School Standards, while embedding a strong culture of safeguarding and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of our SEND policy and practice, fully aligned with our motto and the SEND Code of Practice
- Coordinate all assessments, EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, and statutory processes — ensuring every plan includes clear targets for social skills, communication, and relationships
- Design personalised provision maps and support strategies that remove barriers to learning, interaction, and emotional well-being
- Act as the expert advisor and trainer for all staff, building their skills in inclusive practice, positive behaviour support, and relationship-based approaches
- Build strong, trusting partnerships with parents and carers, involving them as key partners in their child’s development
- Lead multi-agency working with therapists, psychologists, health, and social care teams to deliver joined-up, wrap-around support
- Maintain accurate records, track progress, and report on impact — ensuring we constantly improve outcomes for every learner
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
- Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (or eligible to complete it promptly)
- Deep, up-to-date knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCP processes, and statutory duties
- Expert understanding of a range of SEND needs (including autism, SEMH, speech and language needs, and complex needs) and how they impact social interaction
- Proven experience coordinating SEND provision, leading reviews, and working effectively with multi-agency teams
- Ability to design support that puts connection, social skills, and emotional growth at the heart of learning
- Excellent communication skills — able to build trust with pupils, families, staff, and professionals
- Highly organised, thorough, and calm under pressure
- Fully committed to our mission: “Building Strong Connections and Fostering Social Skills”
