Job Purpose
To assess, plan, deliver, and review speech, language, and communication interventions for pupils, enabling them to access learning, develop communication skills, and achieve their full potential. The post holder will work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to support pupils' individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess pupils' speech, language, and communication needs using appropriate assessment tools.
- Develop and deliver individual and group therapy programmes tailored to pupils' needs.
- Monitor, evaluate, and review pupil progress, maintaining accurate clinical records and reports.
- Provide advice, strategies, and training to teaching staff and parents/carers to support communication across the school environment.
- Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), annual reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and other professionals to promote effective communication and inclusion.
- Ensure therapy programmes are evidence-based and aligned with professional standards and current best practice.
- Maintain appropriate resources and contribute to the development of communication-friendly learning environments.
- Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety, and professional standards at all times.
- Undertake continuing professional development and maintain registration with the relevant professional body.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree or recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) or eligibility for membership.
- Experience working with children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
