About the Role

A specialist SEN school in Surrey is seeking an enthusiastic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant / Sports Coach to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in sports coaching, fitness, or physical education who is passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs.

The school supports pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and associated behavioural needs. You will use sport, physical activity, and positive mentoring to engage pupils, promote confidence, and support both their academic and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Deliver and support engaging sports, PE, and physical activities
  • Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and participation
  • Support pupils with learning, behaviour, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Promote positive behaviour using consistent and restorative approaches
  • Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver personalised support
  • Adapt activities to meet individual EHCP outcomes and learning needs
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • Background in sports coaching, fitness, PE, or youth work
  • Passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Patient, energetic, and resilient approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or behavioural needs
  • Sports coaching qualification or relevant coaching experience
  • Team Teach or positive behaviour management training
  • Experience working within an SEN school, mainstream school, or alternative provision
