Position: STEM Lab Techncian
Location: Tower Hamlets
Contract: Part Time - 2/3 days a week

Smart Teachers are seeking a motivated and skilled STEM Lab Technician to join a forward-thinking secondary education setting. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a technical or engineering background who is passionate about supporting young people and helping to deliver innovative STEM learning experiences.
Working as part of a dedicated STEM team, you will play a key role in supporting the development of a hands-on engineering project, including the construction of Greenpower cars. You will manage specialist equipment, maintain workshop facilities, and provide technical guidance to students and staff, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
The Role
- Coordinate the procurement, setup and maintenance of STEM workshop equipment and machinery.
- Support the construction and development of Greenpower car projects.
- Maintain machinery including CNC equipment, welding equipment and power tools.
- Provide technical support and training to students and staff on the safe use of equipment.
- Ensure workshop health and safety procedures, risk assessments and compliance are maintained.
- Monitor equipment inventories, maintenance schedules and project resources.
- Assist with STEM workshops, events and project documentation.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and project leads to support high-quality STEM education.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a relevant Level 2 technical qualification (or higher) in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline, or has equivalent practical experience.
- Has experience working with technical machinery and workshop equipment.
- Ideally has experience supporting STEM or science environments within education or industry.
- Has strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
- Is organised, proactive and able to maintain accurate records.
- Enjoys working with young people and supporting practical learning.
- Has excellent communication skills and can work effectively as part of a team.
