Location: Widnes
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am-5:00pm
Pay Rates
- £22.44-£23.60 per hour (Umbrella)
- £17.64 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: 6 month initial term.
The Role
Rullion is recruiting for Logistics Operators to join a leading rail engineering organisation at its Widnes Central Logistics Hub.
Working as part of the UK Logistics function, you will provide safe, compliant and efficient logistics support through the effective management of materials. The role will cover the full logistics process, including goods in, storage, inventory control, picking, packing and distribution, ensuring materials are available and delivered to customers in line with agreed service levels and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Complete 5S housekeeping duties and keep work areas clean and tidy at all times.
- Interface confidently with customers, advising on and helping to resolve material issues.
- Report SQDC failures, including EHS/5S issues, safety-critical stock levels, unsatisfied demands, quality and cost issues, to the Team Leader or Logistics Management.
- Ensure the safe inspection, use and operation of MHE at all times.
- Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and departmental risk assessments.
- Complete daily warehouse safety inspections and line-of-route checks.
- Maintain the security of warehouse facilities, stock and controlled materials.
Goods In
- Offload materials using the correct MHE and manual handling techniques.
- Check the quality and quantity of delivered materials against relevant documentation.
- Ensure returned broken stock and general stock is handled correctly in accordance with risk assessments.
- Log and process delivery issues through the NCR process.
- Receive materials accurately into company ERP systems, including part numbers and serialisation where required.
- Complete and maintain accurate delivery paperwork and records.
- Ensure stored parts are secured to prevent injury or incidents.
- Ensure items exceeding 20kg have the appropriate weight labels attached.
Stock Control and Auditing
- Conduct planned PI audits.
- Assist with depot quality, APSYS, EHS and 5S audits.
- Maintain accurate stock quantities and location data within ERP systems.
- Audit serialised materials by serial number and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct safety audits of racking, shelving and equipment within the stores area.
- Ensure all parts are stored in accordance with company quality procedures.
- Ensure storage locations and materials are correctly identified.
- Maintain an organised and clear returns area.
- Manage safety-critical parts in line with customer requirements.
- Ensure depot stock is maintained in accordance with the required processes.
Material Picking and Issuing
- Ensure all kits are picked accurately in line with customer orders.
- Pick and pack materials to required warehouse quality standards and customer requirements.
- Pick, pack and issue materials for depots and outstations using the correct manual handling techniques.
- Ensure picked parts are correctly labelled and prepared for despatch.
Despatch
- Ensure all goods are correctly packed and labelled prior to despatch.
- Book transport requirements with external couriers.
- Generate transport manifests and ensure all items are accounted for prior to collection.
- Load outbound materials onto vehicles using MHE or correct manual handling techniques.
- Ensure goods are loaded correctly and secured for transit.
- Notify depots of urgent collections and expected transfer times.
- Obtain and track Proofs of Delivery for urgent and high-priority shipments.
Stock Management
- Ensure all stock across the site is stored to the correct standards and does not create a safety risk.
- Ensure all materials are stored in accordance with relevant procedures.
- Ensure materials requiring turning, testing or checking are documented and completed within the required timescales.
- Ensure COSHH materials are stored correctly and in accordance with their storage compatibility requirements.
- Ensure materials are placed within the appropriate storage facilities, tents or buildings outside of working hours.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience and Skills
- Previous warehouse or logistics experience.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or logistics environment.
- Good IT skills, including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SAP and PowerPoint, where required.
- Basic knowledge of Health & Safety and Quality legislation.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Customer-focused approach.
- Ability to build professional relationships at all organisational levels.
- Adaptable and self-directed approach to work.
- Positive attitude and conscientious approach.
Desired Experience
- SAP experience within a warehousing environment.
- Experience within the railway or heavy engineering industries.
Qualifications
- Minimum basic qualification to GCSE Maths and English, or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience.
Desirable Licences and Competencies
The following licences and experience would be advantageous:
- Counterbalance FLT Licence - B1, B2 and B3.
- Articulated Fork Truck Licence.
- Crane Driving Licence.
- Very Narrow Aisle Licence.
- Stacker and Powered Pallet Truck Licence.
Reporting Line
You will report to the Stores Team Leader / General Logistics Manager.
The role will work closely with:
Internal stakeholders: Material Planners, Expeditors, Engineering, Quality Management, TC Managers, General Depot Managers and Operators.
External stakeholders: Customers, depots, suppliers, contractors and third-party auditors.
