Stress Engineer in Derby, Derbyshire

Sapien are seeking a Senior or Principal Stress Engineer to join our client’s team in Derby.
The role involves structural analysis of turbomachinery and combustion hardware, from concept through to production. You will analyse new and existing designs and assess them for stress and vibration.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) for both roles.

Senior Stress Engineer
The Senior role is suited to an experienced Stress Engineer who can independently deliver structural analysis activities, contribute to analysis methods and provide technical support to project teams.
This role requires 7+ years of stress analysis experience on turbomachinery and/or combustion hardware.

Principal Stress Engineer
The Principal role requires a higher level of technical responsibility, including leading analysis activities, developing analysis methods, managing customer technical communications, and providing technical leadership and mentoring across the Structures team.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare analysis plans and schedules for structural analysis projects.
• Deliver analysis activities to agreed project schedules and customer requirements.
• Work with IPT Leads, Programme Engineering Managers and Technical Focal Points to resolve project requirements and technical issues.
• Carry out structural analysis, analytical calculations and design support.
• Apply company and customer analysis methods, criteria and procedures.
• Contribute to the development and documentation of structural analysis methods and tools.
• Prepare structural summaries and ensure analysis is documented in Design Analysis Reports and DAR notebooks.
• Present technical work at internal design reviews and to customers where required.
• Support customer communications on technical and project matters.
• Participate in structural engineering reviews and technical discussions.
• Document lessons learned and contribute to improvements within the Structures discipline.
• Review and self-check completed analysis prior to formal technical review.

Principal Stress Engineer – Additional Responsibilities
At Principal Engineer level, you will also:

• Lead structural analysis activities and analysis programmes.
• Provide technical leadership across projects and within the Structures discipline.
• Lead the development and documentation of analysis methods and criteria.
• Lead stress-related technical discussions with customers.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers.
• Lead technical input into structural engineering decisions and design reviews.
• Coordinate structural analysis activities across project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
