Structural Engineer
Sheffield
An established and growing Civil, Structural and Geo-Environmental Engineering Consultancy is looking to appoint a Structural Engineer to its Sheffield team, offering the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of building projects while developing alongside an experienced structural team.
Established in Yorkshire and delivering projects across the UK, the Consultancy has built a strong reputation for practical, creative engineering and has been involved in some significant schemes across the region, including high-rise residential developments, student accommodation, Build to Rent and complex redevelopment projects.
This role would be particularly well suited to an Engineer in the earlier stages of their career who already has some structural design experience but now wants greater project exposure, more technical responsibility and a clear route towards Chartership.
Working closely with Senior and Principal Engineers, you will be involved in projects from concept design through to construction, carrying out structural analysis and design across steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structures. Rather than being limited to one small element of a project, you will have the opportunity to understand how complete building structures come together and gradually take greater ownership of your own work as your experience develops.
You will prepare structural calculations, reports and technical information, work alongside Technicians in the production and coordination of drawings and models, and liaise with Architects, Contractors and other members of the wider design team. There will also be opportunities to attend design meetings and site visits and gain experience of projects through the different stages of design and construction.
The Consultancy works across a range of sectors, with particular experience in concrete frame developments, Purpose Built Student Accommodation and Build to Rent, alongside other residential, commercial and mixed-use schemes. This gives Engineers the chance to gain experience on technically interesting projects and develop a strong understanding of different structural forms and construction methods.
You will ideally hold a BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering and have gained some post-graduate experience within a structural engineering environment. You should have a good grounding in structural analysis and design and an understanding of British Standards and Eurocodes.
Experience with structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, ETABS, Robot or similar would be useful, although you don't need to arrive knowing every package they use. More importantly, they are looking for someone technically curious who wants to keep learning and develop into a well-rounded Structural Engineer.
Professional development is taken seriously within the business, with ongoing CPD, training, professional membership fees and a clear career progression structure. You'll be surrounded by experienced Engineers who can provide technical support and mentoring as you work towards professional qualification. The company also offers hybrid working and flexible hours, 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, an annual bonus scheme, pension, healthcare and wellbeing support.
For someone who has perhaps gained their first couple of years' experience and is now asking "what's next?", this is an opportunity to join a growing Consultancy where you can build your technical ability, work on bigger and more complex projects and see a genuine path for your career.
