Structural Engineer

Location: Motherwell (Hybrid Working)
Contract: 6 months initially, with potential extension
IR35: Inside IR35
Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain SC Clearance

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Contract Structural Engineer to join their established engineering team in Motherwell, supporting the delivery of complex and technically challenging projects across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Structural Engineer who can quickly integrate into multidisciplinary project teams, take ownership of structural design packages and deliver high-quality engineering solutions with minimal supervision.

The successful candidate will work across a diverse range of projects, including refurbishment and new-build developments within sectors such as power, nuclear, defence, industrial, aviation and public infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and review structural calculations, specifications and technical reports.
• Deliver structural design solutions for steel, concrete and masonry structures.
• Take responsibility for structural design packages from concept through to detailed design.
• Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
• Manage your own workload and deliver agreed outputs to programme and quality requirements.
• Provide technical input across multiple projects where required.
• Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant UK codes and standards.
• Support the wider project team in delivering technically robust and practical engineering solutions.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Structural Engineer with the ability to work independently and deliver structural design packages within complex building or infrastructure projects.

You should ideally have:

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, preferably with a structural bias.
• Proven UK experience in structural engineering and building projects.
• Strong structural analysis and design experience.
• Experience designing steel, concrete and masonry structures.
• Experience across commercial, industrial, defence, power, public sector or similarly complex projects.
• Good knowledge of current UK structural design codes and standards.
• Experience with structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, MasterSeries, Robot or similar.
• Strong communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work with minimal supervision and take ownership of technical deliverables.

Please note: Candidates whose experience is primarily focused on residential housing projects are unlikely to be suitable due to the complexity and nature of the projects involved.
