Structured Cabling Engineer (237jc) – Derby - £35 – 40k + Benefits

Data & Fibre Cabling / Telecommunications Engineer

An established data communications and infrastructure business is looking for two dependable and technically capable Structured Cabling Engineers to join its core delivery team in Derby.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

This is a hands-on engineering position working across a range of commercial, industrial and secure environments, including offices, manufacturing facilities, construction sites and data centres.

Individuals with strong commercial/B2B cabling experience are particularly encouraged to apply. The employer is looking for engineers accustomed to delivering structured cabling installations within professional, commercial or industrial environments rather than predominantly domestic or consumer installations.

Appointments can be made at Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 depending on your experience and technical capability.

The Role

As a Structured Cabling Engineer, you will work on internal and external copper and fibre installations, delivering work to high technical and safety standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Installing, terminating and testing Cat6/Cat6a and fibre cabling

- Installing containment and pathways, including conduit, trunking, tray and basket

- Diagnosing and rectifying faults within structured cabling systems

- Installing Wi-Fi access points, UPS units and associated equipment

- Working across commercial offices, manufacturing facilities, construction sites and data centres

- Following risk assessments, method statements and site safety requirements

- Completing the required job and technical documentation

- Travelling to different sites, with occasional overnight stays where projects require

- Supporting wider project and operational requirements when necessary

Training and development opportunities are available in areas including Wi-Fi, UPS, AV systems and Health & Safety.

Additional Responsibilities – Level 2 / Level 3

More experienced engineers may also be responsible for:

- Creating and managing site-specific risk assessments and method statements

- Overseeing project delivery against agreed deadlines

- Conducting site surveys

- Producing technical documentation

- Liaising directly with commercial clients and providing project updates

- Recommending technical solutions

- Supporting project variations and change control

About You

You will ideally have practical experience delivering structured data and fibre cabling within commercial, industrial, defence, manufacturing, construction or data-centre environments.

My client is particularly interested in applicants who understand the expectations of working on commercial client sites, including safety compliance, documentation, quality standards, deadlines and professional client communication.

Essential Requirements

- CSCS/ECS site card

- Full UK driving licence

- Relevant industry training such as IPAF and PASMA

- Strong technical understanding of data and fibre installations

- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

- Good communication and customer-facing skills

- Flexible, organised and detail-focused approach

- Previous experience delivering cabling projects for commercial/B2B customers

Desirable Experience

- Three or more years' structured cabling installation experience

- CNET CNCI qualification

- Experience within defence, manufacturing, industrial or data-centre environments

- SC Security Clearance or the ability to obtain clearance

- Knowledge of JSP453 and TEMPEST/security regulations

What’s On Offer

- Salary of £35,000–£40,000 depending on experience with 22 days Bank Holiday and a standard 40 hr week.

- Company vehicle

- Workplace pension with 4% employer contribution

- Life assurance at three times salary

- 24/7 GP access

- Employee Assistance Programme

- Cycle to Work scheme

- Eye test and glasses contribution

- Flu vaccinations

- Ongoing technical training

- Career development and progression opportunities

Experience gained working with communications infrastructure, copper or fibre systems, secure installations, technical fault-finding, deployed communications or infrastructure projects could provide a strong foundation for the role.

However, this is a commercial engineering position, so candidates who can demonstrate experience of working in, or a clear understanding of, commercial project environments will be particularly attractive.

If you have a strong technical background and are looking to develop your career within commercial data and fibre infrastructure, we would be interested in hearing from you.
