Location: SOAS University of London (Onsite)
Pay Rate: £19.59 per hour
Start Date: 7th October
Duration: 2 days per week for 4 weeks (ideally Wednesdays & Thursdays)
About the Role
We are seeking an organised and proactive Student & Course Administrator to support academic teams and students at SOAS University of London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator who enjoys working in a busy, customer-focused environment and is passionate about delivering an outstanding student experience.
You will play a key role in supporting course administration, student communications, academic processes, and a range of administrative activities that contribute to the smooth running of academic programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to academic staff and students to ensure a high-quality student experience.
- Deliver excellent customer service to staff and students.
- Respond to student enquiries via Moodle, SID, telephone, email, and face-to-face interactions.
- Support the monitoring and recording of student attendance.
- Assist course teams with tutorial organisation, student allocations, attendance records, and associated communications.
- Maintain and update course communications through a variety of channels, including Moodle.
- Support the creation, maintenance, and population of course Moodle pages.
- Assist with student events, external speaker visits, trips, room bookings, meetings, and course calendar management.
- Support examination and assessment activities, including:
- Exam board administration
- Liaison with External Examiners
- Dissertation title and supervisor coordination
- Assist with the preparation of teaching materials, unit guides, and handouts.
- Act as an effective liaison between students, academic staff, and specialist support services.
Essential Requirements
- Previous office administration experience.
- Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with academic and professional services staff.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Numeracy skills and experience using spreadsheets to analyse or manage data.
- Understanding of confidentiality and equality issues relating to staff and student matters.
- Degree or equivalent work experience.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within Higher Education.
- Familiarity with Moodle and managing course pages.
- Experience servicing academic committees, including minute-taking and report writing.
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance processes within Higher Education.
- Understanding of wider sector issues affecting students.
