Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Sustainability Lead to lead and manage sustainability activities, ensuring they meet client needs, industry standards, and legal requirements.
This role centres on embedding sustainability into day-to-day operations, ensuring environmental and social commitments are effectively delivered and continuously improved. You will play a key role in driving performance, analysing data, and influencing both internal teams and client stakeholders.
Working across multiple projects and client environments, you will support the integration of sustainability strategies into operational delivery. You will also ensure robust reporting, compliance with legislation, and the successful coordination of initiatives such as carbon reduction, waste management, and biodiversity programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage sustainability activities in line with client requirements, industry standards, and legislation
- Track and report on sustainability performance, including carbon emissions, waste, social value, and other commitments
- Analyse data to demonstrate progress, identify risks and opportunities, and guide improvements
- Collaborate with clients, sustainability teams, and internal stakeholders to embed sustainability into operations
- Coordinate sustainability projects such as biodiversity, volunteering, waste reduction, and energy efficiency initiatives
- Ensure compliance with environmental and social legislation and support external certification audits
- Manage and report against contractual KPIs, SLAs, and sustainability targets, ensuring timely delivery of reports
- Support and train contract teams, sharing best practice and driving consistent standards
- Work with procurement and supply chain to meet contract sustainability requirements
- Identify opportunities for alignment between client goals and wider organisational sustainability strategy
- Support delivery of environmental sustainability plans and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting sustainability within facilities management (FM), government, or public sector environments
- Strong understanding of environmental systems, carbon reporting, waste data, and related areas
- Good knowledge of sustainability topics, legislation, and reporting frameworks
- Proven experience engaging and collaborating with clients and stakeholders
- Strong data analysis skills with experience in routine sustainability reporting
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to client sites (car/car allowance provided)
