Systems Engineer (Requirements)

Our client, NATS, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support requirements management, engineering workflow coordination and continuous improvement activities. This contract role is based in Whiteley, with an expectation of working on site two to three days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain the Communications Front Door, coordinating the intake, triage and routing of engineering demand
- Maintain a clear, consolidated view of workload across projects, sustainment and operational activities
- Ensure demand is appropriately categorised, prioritised and assigned, supporting workload balancing and resource allocation
- Administer engineering workflows within Jira and associated toolsets, tracking progress and proactively following up on actions and overdue tasks
- Ensure dependencies, blockers and risks are visible, escalating issues where appropriate
- Produce workload, prioritisation, capacity and management reports, including dashboards, trend analysis and reporting views
- Support the implementation of communications ways of working, governance, workflows and RACI models during organisational change
- Identify and drive process improvements, maintain operational documentation and support the adoption of new working practices
Additional Engineering Support:
Depending on experience and workload, the role may also support ATCE4/ATCE5-level engineering tasks, lower-complexity engineering activities, data gathering, technical investigations, documentation reviews, analysis and implementation activities.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in systems engineering, requirements management or engineering coordination
- Strong understanding of demand management, workflow coordination and engineering operating models
- Experience using Jira or similar workflow and project management tools
- Ability to manage competing priorities across project, operational and sustainment environments
- Strong reporting and data analysis skills, including the development of dashboards and workload metrics
- Understanding of governance, RACI models, dependencies, risks and escalation processes
- Excellent organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Understanding of requirements engineering and technical documentation within a Defence & Security environment
