Systems Optimisation Engineer, Water Networks

Are you a experienced Engineer with strong knowledge in Valve operations, pressure management and mains flushing?

We are currently looking for an experienced Systems Optimisation Engineer to support a major clean water network programme across London and the Thames Valley.

Working as part of the Network Operations team, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving network performance, investigating pressure-related issues and developing data-led solutions to operational challenges.

This is a contract opportunity suited to an engineer with a strong understanding of clean water distribution networks, network operations and pressure management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate low-pressure issues, customer complaints and critical network alarms, identifying appropriate technical solutions.
  • Monitor DMA and DM availability and support technical interventions to improve network performance.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments for activities impacting the clean water network.
  • Support activities across pressure-managed areas, asset operations and planned outages.
  • Ensure network activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant Asset Management Procedures and Permit to Work requirements.
  • Analyse operational data to identify longer-term network issues including head loss, low flows, supply resilience and water quality trends.
  • Use network information and operational data to identify opportunities to improve system integrity and performance.
  • Review and update hydraulic schematics to support operational and future network decisions.
  • Work closely with operational teams to support the safe and effective management of clean water assets.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience within water network operations, ideally within clean water distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of operational activities including valve operations and mains flushing.
  • Experience of issuing and/or working in compliance with Permits to Work.
  • Clear understanding of the Permit to Work system.
  • Good understanding of clean water network operations and pressure-related issues.
  • Previous knowledge or experience using GIS mapping software and hydraulic modelling would be advantageous but is not essential.

This is an excellent contract opportunity for a water professional with practical network operations experience looking to work on a major programme supporting the resilience and performance of critical clean water infrastructure.
