The successful candidate will play an important role in managing client relationships, supporting the development of the tax team and contributing to the continued growth of the firm's tax services.
The Opportunity
As Tax Manager, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of clients and provide high-quality tax compliance, planning and advisory services.
You’ll be responsible for reviewing complex tax work, supporting clients with technical matters and ensuring the team delivers a consistently high standard of service.
Alongside your client responsibilities, you’ll provide leadership and development to junior members of the tax team and contribute to strategic planning, process improvement and the continued development of the tax function.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients and act as a trusted adviser on tax matters
- Prepare and review complex tax returns and compliance work
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK and US tax laws and regulations
- Provide tax planning and advisory services tailored to client requirements
- Undertake and review complex tax research and technical work
- Advise clients on tax issues and identify opportunities to improve their tax position
- Manage relationships with tax authorities where required
- Lead or support responses to tax audits, enquiries and notices
- Identify tax risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies
- Review work prepared by junior members of the tax team
- Supervise, mentor and develop Tax Associates and Senior Tax Associates
- Provide technical guidance and support across the team
- Manage multiple engagements and ensure work is delivered accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Support client tax budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities
- Contribute to the development of the firm's tax strategy and service offering
- Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, systems and efficiency
- Support business development and identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships
- Work collaboratively with senior management and other areas of the business
Personal Profile
We’re looking for a technically strong and commercially minded tax professional who is ready to take ownership and make a real contribution to the continued growth of the tax function.
You’ll be confident dealing with clients and complex tax matters, while also being comfortable leading, mentoring and developing more junior colleagues.
You’ll combine strong technical knowledge with excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK and / or US taxation
- Extensive knowledge of relevant UK tax regulations where applicable
- Strong experience across tax compliance and advisory work
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns and technical work
- Experience managing, supervising or mentoring junior tax professionals
- Excellent client relationship and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
- Commercial awareness and a strong focus on client service
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- A proactive approach to process improvement and business development
Qualifications & Experience
ATT / CTA qualification, with ACA/ACCA desirable
CPA / EA or equivalent qualification desirable for US tax specialists
5+ years' experience in a tax-focused role within an accountancy or public accounting environment
Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients
Experience across UK and / or US taxation
Experience leading, supervising or mentoring a tax team
