Teacher of Maths - the role
Depending on the placement, your responsibilities may include:
Teaching Mathematics across KS3 - KS5
Teaching key topics including number, algebra, geometry, ratio, probability and statistics
Planning and delivering engaging lessons for pupils with different levels of mathematical confidence
Teaching GCSE Mathematics at Foundation and Higher tiers
Following established schemes of work and exam-board specifications
Identifying misconceptions and adapting teaching to improve understanding
Assessing pupils' work, analysing progress and addressing gaps in knowledge
Preparing students for GCSE and, where applicable, A-level examinations
Developing pupils' reasoning, fluency and problem-solving skills
Creating a positive and purposeful classroom environment
Managing behaviour confidently and consistently
Working closely with departmental colleagues and school leaders
Contributing to the wider work of the Maths department
Teacher of Maths - requirements
UK Qualified Teacher Status
A degree in Mathematics, a Maths-related subject or another relevant qualification demonstrating strong subject knowledge
Recent experience teaching Maths in a UK secondary school, including teaching placements
Secure knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 Mathematics curriculum
Confidence teaching GCSE Mathematics at both Foundation and Higher tiers
An understanding of GCSE assessment objectives, exam techniques and current exam-board specifications
The ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and address common misconceptions
Experience using assessment data to identify gaps and plan appropriate support
The ability to teach A-level Mathematics would be advantageous for some placements but is not essential
Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
A reliable, adaptable and professional approach
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
The legal right to work in the UK - we are unable to offer visa sponsorship
An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one
