Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision at Pathway, Middleport

Pathway Academy Zone is looking for a confident, resilient and committed Teaching Assistant to support young people at our Alternative Provision centre in Stoke-on-Trent.

This is a flexible opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may have experienced barriers within mainstream education and need additional support to re-engage, build confidence and make positive progress.

The Role

You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to provide practical, individualised support to learners.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supporting learners on a 1:1 basis and in small groups

• Assisting tutors during lessons and learning activities

• Helping learners remain engaged, focused and motivated

• Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs

• Encouraging positive behaviour and maintaining clear professional boundaries

• Supporting learners to build confidence, independence and resilience

• Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and a positive learning environment

• Monitoring learner progress and escalating concerns where appropriate

• Building strong professional relationships with learners, colleagues and other professionals

About You

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

• Alternative Provision

• SEND or SEMH

• Schools or colleges

• Youth work

• Behaviour support

• Mentoring

• Care or support work

• Employability or vocational education

You will need to be patient, resilient and confident when working with young people who may have complex needs or challenging behaviours.

A relevant Teaching Assistant, education, SEND or youth work qualification would be advantageous, although strong practical experience will also be considered.

What We Offer

• Flexible zero-hours working

• Approximately £13.50 – £14.50 per hour depending on experience

• Equivalent FTE salary of £25,000 – £27,000
