The Teaching Assistant role
As a Teaching Assistant in High Wycombe, you will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist professionals to provide individualised support to pupils across the school’s primary or secondary provision.
The curriculum is highly personalised and focused on helping every young person develop the skills they need to become as independent as possible.
Your day as a Teaching Assistant could involve:
- Supporting pupils with severe and complex learning needs
- Working with children and young people with complex autism
- Supporting communication using books, symbols and communication devices
- Helping pupils with sensory and emotional regulation
- Supporting learning through practical and play-based activities
- Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils
- Supporting pupils with their individual physical, social and emotional needs
- Working alongside teachers, Speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists
Do I need SEND experience?
Not necessarily.
Previous school experience isn't essential for this High Wycombe Teaching Assistant vacancy, as comprehensive training and support are available.
We're interested in people who are patient, resilient, caring and genuinely motivated to work with children and young people with additional needs.
Experience in any of the following could be particularly transferable:

You'll also have opportunities to develop your knowledge of areas such as communication strategies, low-arousal approaches, behaviour and de-escalation, sensory regulation, safeguarding and dysphagia awareness.
