Teaching Assistant Grade 1 - The Role:

Working under the guidance of senior staff, you will play an important role in supporting the academic and personal development of children both in and out of the classroom. Your day-to-day work will include preparing the classroom for lessons, listening to children read, providing extra support to pupils who need it, helping teachers plan learning activities and maintain records, supporting behaviour management, supervising group activities, and providing pastoral care to children who are upset or have had accidents.

Teaching Assistant Grade 1 - Key Responsibilities:

- Establish positive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding appropriately to individual needs

- Attend to pupils' personal needs including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters

- Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety and access to learning

- Support pupils to access learning activities as directed by the teacher and in line with their individual learning plans

- Prepare classroom learning environments, assist with displays and manage resources

- Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour

- Liaise sensitively with parents and carers as agreed with the teacher

- Monitor pupil progress, welfare and behaviour and report to the teacher

- Support pupils to access the curriculum, particularly reading and ICT

- Supervise pupils during lunch, breaks, visits and out of school activities

- Maintain and update records and information in line with school policies

Teaching Assistant Grade 1 - You:

- Relevant experience working in a school or similar educational setting

- Experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs and/or social, emotional and mental health difficulties

- Experience of using restorative practices

- Ability to support pupils with strategies to enable them to settle to learn
