We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in South East London. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children develop confidence in reading and literacy through high-quality phonics intervention.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SEN team to support pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. A key part of the role will be delivering phonics and literacy interventions, including Lexonics and/or recognised phonics programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils in the classroom and in small-group interventions.
- Deliver phonics sessions using Lexonics or a recognised phonics programme.
- Help children develop reading, spelling, and language skills.
- Work with pupils who require additional support, including those with SEND.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school.
- Experience delivering Lexonics interventions or recognised phonics programmes (Little Wandle, Read Write Inc., or equivalent).
- A strong understanding of early reading and literacy development.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
