About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and empathetic Teaching Assistant / Pupil Support Worker to join a thriving Alternative Provision (AP) in the Accrington area.
Starting 1st September 2026, this part-time role (Monday to Wednesday) involves working with secondary-aged students (ages 11-16) who have struggled to access mainstream education. Many of the pupils have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, or Autism (ASD). Your goal will be to break down barriers to learning, foster trust, and help students successfully re-engage with their personal and academic development.
Key Responsibilities
1:1 & Small Group Support: Assist teachers in delivering tailored activities designed to re-engage disaffected or vulnerable learners.
Behavioural Mentoring: Use strong de-escalation strategies, positive reinforcement, and a calm demeanour to manage challenging behaviour and promote emotional regulation.
Relationship Building: Serve as a positive role model, helping pupils build self-esteem, resilience, and essential life skills.
Progress Tracking: Collaborate closely with SENDCos and senior staff to monitor student development and feed back on individual education plans.
Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people. Backgrounds in Alternative Provisions, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), SEN schools, youth work, residential care, or sports coaching are highly desirable.
Qualifications: Relevant qualifications (such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Youth Work, or Health and Social Care) are advantageous, though a positive, adaptable attitude is paramount.
What We Offer
Work-Life Balance: A structured part-time schedule running Monday through Wednesday during term time only.
Professional Growth: Access to specialised training, such as trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour management.
Career Pathways: An opportunity to transition from a temporary placement into a permanent contract
