We are currently recruiting for a resilient and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in Bolton from September.
This full-time role offers the opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as a range of additional behavioural and learning needs. The school provides a structured, nurturing environment for students who may have struggled to engage in mainstream education and require tailored support to reach their potential.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and students to promote positive outcomes both inside and outside the classroom. While there will be opportunities to provide individual support, the role will also involve working with small groups and supporting learning across the school.
We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in education, sports coaching, youth work, mentoring, tutoring, residential care, support work, or volunteering with young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students with SEMH and additional needs in both classroom and pastoral settings
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons
- Build positive relationships with students and act as a consistent role model
- Support the implementation of behaviour strategies and interventions
- Work with small groups and individual students to support learning and emotional development
- Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence
- Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in an education, care, coaching, mentoring, or support setting
- Previous experience supporting SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is highly desirable
- Strong behaviour management and communication skills
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Ability to build trust and maintain professional boundaries
- Passion for supporting vulnerable young people to succeed
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
