Teaching Assistant – Autism & Complex Learning Needs

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting supporting young people with Autism and Complex Learning Profiles. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to build a career in special education, whether you already have experience or are looking to take your first step into the sector.

Please note: Due to the rural location of the school and the lack of public transport, applicants must be able to drive and have access to their own vehicle.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes. You may work within a classroom, support a small group, or provide dedicated 1:1 support to an individual student.

While consistency is important, flexibility is essential. You may be required to support different classes, year groups, or students to meet the needs of the school.

About the Students

The young people attending this specialist setting have a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD and other co-existing needs
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Speech, language and communication needs
  • Social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH)
  • Sensory processing and integration differences
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Histories of disrupted education and placement breakdowns
What We're Looking For
  • A caring, patient, and resilient individual
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Experience working with children or young people is advantageous but not essential
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C / Level 4 or above (essential)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
Working Hours
  • Monday to Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Term time only (39 weeks per year)
  • Start date: ASAP

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
