SEMH Teaching Assistant - PRU | Gorton, Manchester | September Start

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

TradeWind Recruitment are working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Gorton to recruit a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced barriers to learning and require consistent, positive relationships to help them succeed.

Working closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support both in and out of the classroom.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • Support students in managing their emotions and behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Encourage engagement with learning and promote positive outcomes.

  • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to support individual learning and behaviour plans.



The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs.

  • Calm, patient, and resilient when working in challenging situations.

  • Confident in building strong relationships and maintaining professional boundaries.

  • Able to adapt to the needs of individual pupils.

  • Experienced in education, youth work, residential care, support work, coaching, or similar roles (desirable but not essential).

  • Committed to helping students achieve both academically and personally.
