Teaching Assistant (with additional SEN responsibility)

Teaching Personnel is working with a number of welcoming primary schools seeking Level 3 (or above) Teaching Assistants to join their teams from September 2026. 

These roles combine traditional classroom support with dedicated SEN/ SEMH responsibilities, making them ideal for experienced Teaching Assistants looking to broaden their skills and take on greater responsibility.

You'll work closely with the class teacher and SENDCO to ensure all pupils can access learning, with a particular focus on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and challenging behaviour. Whether you're delivering targeted interventions, providing 1:1 support or adapting classroom activities, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils make both academic and personal progress.

• Supporting teaching and learning across the classroom alongside the class teacher.
• Providing dedicated support for pupils with a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH and moderate learning difficulties.
• Delivering planned interventions to individuals and small groups to close learning gaps.
• Modifying activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
• Monitoring progress and communicating effectively with teachers, SENDCOs and parents where appropriate.
• Creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment for every child.

• Holds a Level 3 qualification (or above) in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare or a related field.
• Has recent experience working within a mainstream primary school.
• Has experience supporting children with SEN/SEMH or a genuine desire to specialise in this area.
• Is confident delivering interventions and supporting pupils on both a 1:1 and small-group basis.
• Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Is proactive, adaptable and passionate about making a difference every day.
