I am recruiting for two Technical Assurance Auditors to join HS2, supporting the delivery of one of the UK's largest infrastructure programmes.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an established technical assurance function, working across civils, stations, railway systems and utilities to assess whether contractors are meeting HS2's technical, contractual and engineering requirements.
Unlike traditional Quality Management System auditing, this role focuses on technical compliance and the evidence contractors provide to demonstrate that requirements have been achieved. Audits follow structured ISO auditing principles but assess compliance against project-specific technical requirements rather than ISO clauses themselves.
The role is predominantly document-based, involving the review of technical assurance evidence, contractor processes and compliance records, alongside meetings with Tier 1 contractors and internal delivery teams.
Essential:
·Experience within construction, engineering or major infrastructure, including exposure to design processes.
·Previous experience conducting internal, supplier, technical assurance or compliance audits.
·Good understanding of ISO 9001 quality management principles and structured auditing methodologies.
·Ability to review technical documentation, assess compliance and identify gaps in assurance evidence.
·Experience producing audit reports, identifying non-conformances and following up corrective actions.
·Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing complex technical information.
·Confidence engaging with contractors, challenging findings constructively and communicating recommendations.
·Ability to independently plan, coordinate and deliver audits while managing competing priorities.
Desirable Experience
·ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification, ideally with 3+ years of relevant experience.
·ISO 14001 Environmental Management or ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety auditing qualifications.
·Experience as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Technical Assurance Manager, Lead Auditor or engineering professional with auditing responsibilities.
·Experience auditing technical assurance processes across major construction or infrastructure programmes.
·Knowledge of railway infrastructure, including civils, stations, systems or utilities.
·Experience reviewing engineering assurance evidence, design compliance documentation or inspection and test plans.
·Experience leading audit meetings, managing audit programmes and tracking findings through to resolution.
·Previous experience working with Tier 1 contractors or within a major infrastructure client organisation.
This is an opportunity to join HS2's technical assurance team and contribute directly to the successful delivery of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.
My client is particularly interested in candidates with ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualifications, although this is not essential for every appointment. Experienced quality professionals, technical assurance specialists and engineers with demonstrable auditing experience are also encouraged to apply.
Previous rail experience is desirable but not essential. The priority is finding someone with a strong construction or engineering background who understands how to assess technical compliance and work collaboratively with contractors.
The focus is on helping the supply chain achieve compliance, identifying risks early and ensuring technical requirements are being properly demonstrated, rather than simply finding faults.
