Our client is a global engineering and manufacturing organisation seeking an experienced Technical Author to join their team based in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly technical environment, producing high-quality customer documentation for complex engineered products used worldwide.
This hybrid role offers the flexibility to split your time between remote working and onsite collaboration at the Clevedon office.
The Role
As Technical Author, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining clear, accurate, and compliant technical documentation to support customers and internal stakeholders globally. Working closely with engineers, subject matter experts, and manufacturing teams, you will ensure all documentation is produced to a consistently high standard.
Documentation will include:
·Instruction manuals
·Spare parts manuals
·Addendums
·Declarations of Conformity
·Product support documentation
Key Responsibilities
·Plan, research, write, edit, and deliver technical documentation from concept through to release
·Produce clear, concise, and well-structured procedures and technical instructions
·Create and manipulate photographs and technical illustrations to support written content
·Gather technical information through collaboration with engineering teams and subject matter experts
·Review, proofread, and amend documentation to ensure accuracy and consistency
·Ensure all documentation complies with relevant industry standards and directives
·Work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
·A degree, HNC/HND qualification, apprenticeship, military engineering background, or equivalent experience in mechanical or electromechanical engineering
·Proven experience as a Technical Author within an engineering or manufacturing environment
·Experience producing instruction manuals for complex technical products
·Experience using XML authoring tools
·Good understanding of Component Content Management Systems (CCMS)
·Strong Microsoft Office and SharePoint 365 skills
·Experience using image manipulation software such as CorelDRAW
·The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical data
·Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
·Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and SMEs
