Technical Branch Manager
Flowtech Fluid Power PLC
Branch Manager – Skelmersdale
Thorite | Part of Flowtech PLC
Build a branch. Win customers. Grow the business.
This is not a Branch Manager role where you'll be walking into an established operation and simply keeping things ticking over.
Thorite is establishing a new branch in Skelmersdale, and we're looking for someone who wants to take ownership of it, build its customer base and turn it into a successful part of the wider business.
You'll have the backing of Thorite and the wider Flowtech PLC Group, but the opportunity is yours to make your mark.
The Opportunity
You'll initially be the key person on the ground, responsible for developing the branch and creating momentum from day one.
That means getting out into the local market, meeting customers, identifying opportunities, winning new business and building relationships that turn into long-term accounts.
You'll also be hands-on with the branch itself — supporting customers, providing technical product advice, managing orders and stock, working with suppliers and making sure customers receive the service they expect.
As the branch grows, so will your team. You'll have the opportunity to recruit, develop and lead sales colleagues, ultimately creating a high-performing branch around you.
You'll have support from the wider Flowtech team based next door, so while you'll have genuine autonomy, you won't be doing it alone.
What you'll be doing
-
Build the business – identify and target new customers across the local territory and turn opportunities into sales.
-
Get in front of customers – develop relationships through proactive visits, networking and regular account activity.
-
Grow existing business – understand customer requirements, identify opportunities and increase customer spend and retention.
-
Own the branch order book – manage quotations, follow up opportunities and drive conversion through to order.
-
Be commercially accountable – deliver sales growth while maintaining healthy margins and profitability.
-
Be technically credible – use your knowledge of pneumatics, compressed air and/or fluid power to understand customer challenges and recommend the right solutions.
-
Keep the branch running well – manage orders, stock, supplier relationships and day-to-day branch activity.
-
Build the team – as the branch develops, recruit, coach and lead internal and external sales colleagues.
-
Create the local strategy – decide where the opportunities are and put a clear plan in place to grow the branch.
Who will thrive in this role?
We're looking for someone who enjoys building rather than maintaining.
You might already be a Branch Manager, Sales Manager or Business Development professional within the pneumatics, compressed air, fluid power or wider industrial sector.
Equally, you may be an experienced technical salesperson who is ready to take the next step and have genuine ownership of a business.
What matters most is that you are:
-
Commercially driven – you naturally look for opportunities and know how to turn them into revenue.
-
Proactive – you're comfortable picking up the phone, getting in the car, visiting customers and creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to arrive.
-
Technically credible – you understand pneumatics and compressed air systems well enough to have valuable conversations with industrial customers.
-
Customer-focused – you build relationships that last and take pride in finding the right solution.
-
Entrepreneurial – you're motivated by the opportunity to build something and see the results of your own work.
-
Self-sufficient – you're comfortable working with autonomy, making decisions and taking responsibility for the outcome.
-
A future leader – you want to build a team around you and develop people as the branch grows.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
Previous branch management or experience leading a sales team would be advantageous, as would experience managing stock and supplier relationships.
A British Fluid Power Certificate would also be advantageous, but relevant industry knowledge and commercial experience are what really matter.
Why Thorite?
You'll be joining Thorite, part of Flowtech PLC, an established name in the UK industrial market, giving you the opportunity to combine the autonomy of building a new branch with the backing and resources of a much larger group.
You'll have:
-
Company car
-
Performance-based bonus and commission opportunities
-
25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
-
Support from the wider Flowtech team
-
The opportunity to build and lead a new branch
-
Genuine career development opportunities within a growing organisation
Ready to build something?
If you're technically knowledgeable, commercially driven and enjoy the idea of being able to say "I built this", this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
