We currently have an opportunity for a Technical Coordinator at our Beckton Sewage Treatment Works – the largest in Europe, and to work within the Northeast London region Waste Business. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the management of the pre-requisites (materials, permits, resources and services) for all complex jobs for planned and reactive work across maintenance and operations.

This role will involve day-to-day contractor liaison and management, input into future planning and solutions, and providing technical support to the wider team.

The Technical Coordinator role is key to North-East London, without this role customer journeys and sewer health would take a significant impact. This role is responsible for authorising works on the treatment works and securing the funding for any rectification works required.

What you’ll be doing as the Technical Coordinator
  • You will play a key role as part of a team ensuring that sewage treatment works that you cover are operational and maintained to the correct standard.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring the materials required to maintain the plant is available for the maintenance team to complete tasks, by specifying and ordering materials.
  • Management and organisation of contractors to carry out repairs and fault diagnosis on pumps and the supporting equipment.
  • Raising work orders on SAP.
  • Management of PUWER inspections especially with Penstocks & coordination with Confined Space Authority
  • Reviewing Service Contracts and filing work reports in SharePoint.
  • Reviewing maintenance activities for continuous improvement and compliance with asset standards.
  • This role will require a large focus on engagement and communication with key stakeholders to ensure all activities are planned effectively and efficiently.
  • Be the lead person with specific activities within a designated area, including directing on briefed projects and providing support on larger scale projects.

What should you bring to the role?

The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role is:
  • Strong communication skills between the Thames Water team and framework contractors.
  • Collaborative – able to work closely with Planners, Field Performance Managers, suppliers, and 3rd parties.
  • Technically experienced with a good understanding of how to maintain assets.
  • Good local knowledge of how important an asset is to a site and how it relates to other assets.
  • Meticulous at documenting the finer details of what needs to take place.
  • Able to manage a large workload of numerous jobs in parallel.
  • Competent with IT systems (will use SAP extensively) as well as strong communication skills
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry
  • Clean driving license

Additional skills and experiences would be great to have:
  • Relevant experience working within Water or Wastewater treatment or comparable industry, preferably experience as a Mechanical and Electrical technician or ICA technician.
  • Timed served an apprenticeship and relevant technical qualification.

Salary: Up to £59,655 depending on your level of experience and skills

Hours: 36 Hours Monday - Friday

Locations: Beckton, Riverside, Deephams STW
