  • Act as a technical authority, driving design decisions and best practices
  • Mentor and support engineers across the team

Hardware Design (Hands-On)

  • Design and develop complex electronic hardware systems
  • Create and review schematics and PCB layouts (Altium / ORCAD)
  • Lead board bring-up, testing, and debugging
  • Ensure compliance with DFM, DFT, and EMC standards

Agile & Project Execution

  • Work within an Agile environment, leading and contributing to:
    • Daily stand-ups
    • Sprint planning & retrospectives
  • Manage workflows and documentation using JIRA and Confluence
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Firmware, and Programme teams

Problem Solving & Support

  • Lead root cause analysis and fault-finding activities
  • Support customer issue investigations and technical escalations
  • Work cross-functionally to deliver robust solutions

Compliance & Quality

  • Support and lead EMC testing and certification activities
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory and quality requirements
  • Contribute to development of test strategies and fixtures

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in engineering processes, documentation, and delivery frameworks
  • Promote scalable and efficient ways of working within the hardware team

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering (or similar)
  • 8+ years' experience in hardware design and development
  • Strong experience with:
    • Schematic design & PCB layout
    • Board bring-up and debugging
    • EMC design and compliance
  • Proven experience delivering projects in an Agile environment (JIRA, Confluence)
  • Ability to combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and collaboration skills

Desirable

  • Experience in electronic security or high-reliability products
  • Exposure to hardware/firmware integration
  • Previous mentoring or informal leadership experience

Working Arrangement (Key Requirement)

Hybrid model:

  • 3 days per week on-site in Gloucestershire
  • 2 days per week remote working

Please note: This hybrid structure is a core requirement of the role and candidates must be able to commit to regular on-site presence.

Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Engineer stepping into a Technical Lead role or an existing lead who still enjoys being hands-on, while influencing delivery, mentoring others, and shaping engineering direction in a collaborative, Agile environment.
