Technical Lead
Probe UK
The Opportunity
This is an excellent hands-on opportunity for an experienced Technical Lead Engineer to step into a genuine technical leadership position within an established engineering business.
The role offers a great combination of design, product development, customer interaction, testing and hands-on engineering, giving you the opportunity to have a real influence on products and the wider technical direction of the business.
Crucially, this is a role with a long-term succession plan. The successful individual will work closely with the current Technical Director, gradually taking on greater responsibility with the potential to ultimately take over the technical leadership of the business.

- Progression / succession within the role
Technical Lead Key Responsibilities

- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
- Work closely with production, providing hands-on engineering support and solving technical issues quickly and effectively.
- Carry out testing, evaluation, fault-finding and product development, giving you plenty of opportunity to get hands-on.
- Support some electrical design using SolidWorks Electrical, providing useful additional breadth without the role becoming heavily electrical.
- Take increasing ownership of the company's engineering activities, becoming a key technical decision-maker and future leader.
Technical Lead Candidate Requirements
We're looking for someone who is technically strong but also practical, commercially aware and confident dealing with people.
- Strong mechanical design experience within a manufacturing or product development environment, with good practical engineering knowledge. A level of electrical design experience would be highly advantageous.
- Excellent SolidWorks skills and experience producing detailed drawings, assemblies and 3D models.
- A hands-on approach, with experience of testing, troubleshooting and supporting products through manufacture.
- Confidence and communication skills to deal directly with customers, production and other departments.
- The ability to take ownership, make sound engineering decisions and solve problems rather than simply identify them.
- Ambition to progress beyond design engineering into technical leadership and management.
An apprentice-trained engineer would be particularly attractive, although a degree is not essential. Practical experience, engineering ability and the right attitude are what really matter.
