Technical Manager – Foundry

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager to join an established foundry and manufacturing business.

This is a senior technical role responsible for leading Process Engineers and Lab/Melting Technicians, while overseeing technical processes and driving improvements across the foundry.

The successful candidate will focus on improving quality, yield and productivity, reducing scrap and rework, and developing a strong continuous improvement culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the technical team, including Process Engineers and Lab/Melting Technicians
  • Oversee and support melting and foundry processes
  • Drive improvements in yield, scrap, quality and productivity
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain effective process controls and testing procedures
  • Support the Quality function and customer quality requirements
  • Manage tooling, including new tooling, repairs and relationships with external toolmakers
  • Drive the use of in-house machining, 3D scanning and emerging technologies
  • Support and coordinate MAGMASOFT simulation activities
  • Lead NPI projects and ensure production sign-off requirements are met
  • Work closely with customers, suppliers and internal departments
  • Monitor departmental KPIs and drive continuous improvement
  • Promote high standards of Health & Safety and housekeeping

About You

We are looking for someone with strong technical experience within a foundry, casting or heavy manufacturing environment, ideally with previous management or team leadership experience.

You should have a strong understanding of casting processes, tooling, process control and quality improvement, alongside excellent problem-solving skills.

Experience with MAGMASOFT, 3D scanning/metrology and NPI would be advantageous.

  • Proven technical/process engineering experience within a foundry or casting environment
  • Strong knowledge of foundry and casting processes

  • Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing and developing technical teams
  • Knowledge of tooling and process control
  • Strong Health & Safety awareness
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement
