Technical Parts Engineer
Brighton | Permanent | £30,000 - £35,000 + Bonus
Are you a technical expert on heavy lifting, materials handling, agricultural or construction machinery who knows their way around OEM parts manuals better than most? This is a rare opportunity to become the go-to authority on parts identification for a well-established, ambitious international business.
The Company
Our client is a market-leading distributor and service partner for heavy lifting and materials handling equipment, operating across West and Central Africa for more than 70 years. With a technical centre in Scotland, a commercial hub in Brighton, and operations spanning multiple African territories, they supply and support equipment from globally recognised OEMs to major ports, terminals, and industrial operations. Aftermarket support — spare parts and service — drives the majority of group revenue, and the business has a clear strategic roadmap to grow turnover by 30% over the next five years.
The Role
This newly created position reports directly to the Managing Director and will play a critical part in improving the quality, accuracy, and consistency of parts listings across the whole group. You'll act as the internal authority on parts manuals and technical publications, support the commercial team on complex technical queries, and help raise the capability of engineers through training and improved processes.
What you'll be doing
- Acting as the group's technical expert on OEM parts manuals, technical publications, and machine documentation
- Providing daily support to the Brighton-based commercial parts team on complex queries requiring technical interpretation
- Owning the quality of all parts listings produced across the business
- Reviewing, auditing, and evaluating listings to identify errors and training needs
- Delivering structured training programmes for engineers and internal staff across the UK and Africa
- Liaising with OEMs, the Scotland-based technical team, and African engineering teams to resolve issues
- Introducing improved governance to ensure accountability for parts listings
- Supporting wider initiatives linked to inventory management and aftermarket development
What we're looking for
- A strong technical background in heavy lifting, materials handling, agricultural, or construction machinery
- Experience working with OEMs, dealerships, or heavy plant distributors
- Confidence navigating complex parts manuals
- A methodical, logical, and detail-driven approach
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to train and upskill others
- A self-starter who can assess and improve processes
- Willingness to travel as required
- Full-time office attendance during probation, with hybrid working available once established in the role
Hours: 08:00–16:30 or 09:00–17:30
