Technical Sales Engineer
Rotherham
c. £50,000 depending on experience
Building Relationships. Solving Engineering Challenges.
There are sales roles where success is measured by how many calls you make.
This isn't one of them.
We're recruiting on behalf of a long-established engineering manufacturer specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke fabricated equipment and structural steelwork for some of the UK's largest industrial businesses. Their equipment operates across demanding sectors including mining, quarrying, recycling, power generation and heavy industry.
Their reputation has been built over decades by delivering robust engineering solutions and developing long-term customer relationships founded on trust, technical understanding and reliability.
We're now looking to appoint a Technical Sales Engineer to take responsibility for an established customer base - maintaining longstanding relationships, understanding customers' evolving requirements and identifying opportunities to develop those accounts further.
The Role
This is predominantly an internal position based within the commercial team, with occasional travel to customer sites and industry exhibitions.
You'll become the first point of contact for many existing customers, understanding their requirements, preparing quotations, coordinating enquiries and ensuring projects progress smoothly from enquiry through to order.
Rather than chasing new business every day, your focus will be on maintaining strong customer relationships, understanding their operations and recognising opportunities to provide engineering solutions when they're needed.
Working closely with the design and engineering teams, you'll ensure customers receive practical, commercially viable solutions backed by excellent service.
We're looking for someone who...
- Enjoys building genuine, long-term customer relationships.
- Can communicate confidently with engineers, buyers and senior decision-makers.
- Has experience within an engineering environment involving fabricated or engineered-to-order products.
- Is comfortable discussing technical requirements, drawings and specifications with customers and colleagues.
- Understands the importance of customer service as much as winning new work.
- Is organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing multiple enquiries.
- Takes pride in representing a respected engineering business.
Your background could be in technical sales, internal sales, estimating, applications engineering, mechanical engineering or customer account management.
You don't need to have sold exactly the same products before. What's more important is that you understand an environment involving fabrication, technical drawings and engineered-to-order products, and have the communication skills and commercial awareness to build strong customer relationships.
Of particular interest would be experience gained within structural steelwork, heavy fabrication, materials handling or bespoke engineered equipment.
What makes this opportunity different?
This isn't a business driven by aggressive sales targets or short-term wins.
Customers return because they trust the people they deal with.
You'll work directly with some of the UK's most recognised names across heavy industry, developing relationships that extend well beyond individual projects.
Many of these customers have worked with the business for decades, and you'll inherit an established portfolio whilst identifying opportunities to strengthen and develop those accounts further.
You'll be joining a stable, long-established engineering company with an excellent reputation for quality, technical expertise and customer service.
Salary & Benefits
- c. £50,000 depending on experience
- 36 day’s annual leave including bank holidays
- Company pension
- Ongoing training and development
- Friendly and supportive team environment
- Opportunity to attend customer meetings and industry exhibitions
