Technical Surveyor – Eccles
Location: Eccles, Manchester
Salary: £35,000 basic plus overtime
Typical earnings: Approximately £45,000 per annum
Travel: Working away from home Monday to Friday throughout the UK
We are recruiting a Technical Surveyor for a specialist organisation supporting the delivery and installation of high-value medical and technical equipment.
This is a nationwide role involving extensive travel and regular overnight stays. You will attend customer sites to establish the safest and most practical final-mile movement of specialist equipment, assessing access routes, weights, dimensions and installation requirements.
You will then produce detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) that accurately reflect the agreed delivery and installation solution.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working away from home from Monday to Friday and travelling to customer sites throughout the UK.
Key responsibilities
• Attending customer sites and installation meetings as required
• Carrying out detailed site surveys to establish safe delivery and installation solutions
• Assessing access routes, dimensions, weights and equipment-movement requirements
• Producing detailed Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for each surveyed project
• Ensuring all surveyed work is completed in line with the agreed method
• Working closely with the Installation and Technical Services teams
• Researching and implementing new delivery and equipment-movement solutions
• Providing technical guidance where required
• Reviewing and signing off third-party RAMS
• Accurately recording approved third-party RAMS on the relevant register
• Delivering briefings to installation crews ahead of complex deliveries and installations
• Carrying out site audits of work completed by installation crews
• Ensuring safe working practices and agreed methods are followed on site
• Identifying potential risks, access restrictions and operational challenges before work begins
• Working closely with the HSEQ Manager
• Ensuring changes in health and safety legislation are reflected in RAMS and associated documentation
• Producing clear, accurate and detailed survey reports and supporting documentation
Requirements
• Previous surveying or surveyance experience is essential
• Experience producing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
• Experience reviewing and signing off third-party RAMS
• The ability to translate site-survey findings into a practical delivery and installation method
• Working knowledge of health and safety legislation
• An understanding of safe systems of work and site-risk management
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
• Confident measuring and recording access routes, equipment dimensions, weights and site restrictions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong customer-facing skills
• The confidence to brief installation teams on complex projects
• Good IT knowledge, including PCs, laptops, PDAs and tablets
• Able to produce accurate written reports and technical documentation
• Able to work effectively with Installation, Technical Services and HSEQ teams
• Comfortable working independently and using initiative
• A strong team player with a flexible and practical approach
• A full UK driving licence with no more than three penalty points
• Willing and able to work away from home Monday to Friday throughout the UK
• A flexible, proactive and can-do attitude
Package
• £35,000 basic salary
• Typical annual earnings of approximately £45,000 with overtime
• Hotel accommodation provided when working away, normally in a Premier Inn or Holiday Inn
• £39.90 daily working-away allowance, with no receipts required
