Role Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technician Supervisor to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop operating on a night shift basis.

This role is suited to a hands-on and motivated supervisor with strong HGV technical knowledge, confident in leading a team of technicians, managing workloads, and ensuring all maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

You will oversee workshop operations during night shifts, ensuring compliance standards are met, vehicle availability targets are achieved, and overall workflow runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repair work on commercial vehicles and fleet assets safely and efficiently
  • Allocate and prioritise workloads across workshop technicians to meet deadlines and operational targets
  • Complete scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance, and defect rectification in line with compliance requirements
  • Ensure all job cards, inspection sheets, and workshop records are completed accurately
  • Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve vehicle faults
  • Conduct road tests before and after repair work where required
  • Monitor workshop standards, ensuring tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean and organised
  • Review and sign off inspection paperwork and vehicle release documentation
  • Monitor technician performance, efficiency, and timekeeping across the shift
  • Produce and manage vehicle off-road (VOR) reports
  • Support health & safety compliance and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times
  • Report hazards, incidents, or operational issues through correct procedures

Pay & Shift Pattern

  • £24.00 per hour for 4-on / 4-off night shift patterns
  • £23.00 per hour for Monday–Friday night shift patterns
  • Overtime opportunities available

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance / Repair, or proven workshop experience
  • Experience servicing and maintaining HGV or commercial vehicles
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good understanding of workshop health & safety procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and IT system accuracy

Desirable:

  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a workshop environment
  • Experience using diagnostic systems and fault-finding equipment
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • LGV C+E licence
  • Driver CPC qualification
