£70,000 - £90,000 | Gloucestershire | Hybrid

Ncounter is supporting a growing technology consultancy looking for a Technologist to take a leading role across R&D, solution design and the technical development of new client opportunities.
This is not a traditional Software Engineer position. You will combine hands-on engineering with architecture, rapid prototyping and technical consultancy, helping turn complex problems into credible solutions.

A significant part of the role will involve providing the technical thinking behind bids, working out how a proposed solution could actually be designed and delivered, then confidently presenting those ideas to technical stakeholders.

You will also remain hands-on, developing Proofs of Concept and MVPs, exploring emerging technologies and helping shape an expanding research capability. Projects can move quickly and span areas including distributed systems, AI, observability, cloud-native technology, messaging, NLP and image processing.

What we’re looking for:
• A strong software engineering background, ideally with recent hands-on development experience
• Strong Python skills and/or experience with Java, JavaScript, C/C++ or Rust
• Broad technical knowledge, with the ability to choose technologies based on the problem rather than being tied to one stack
• Experience designing solutions from high-level architecture through to detailed technical implementation
• Exposure to technical consultancy, pre-sales, bids or customer-facing solution design
• Linux and cloud experience across AWS, Azure or GCP
• Genuine curiosity around emerging technologies and an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly

The position would particularly suit an experienced Engineer, Technical Consultant or Architect who wants more variety and influence than a conventional delivery role. There is considerable scope to help shape the technical direction of a growing business, develop its R&D capability and potentially build a wider engineering function over time.

You will need to be eligible for UK Security Clearance and able to work from Gloucestershire regularly.
