Hill & Hill Recruitment are seeking a Fire Officer with strong Building Safety knowledge to work with one of our Local Authority clients based in London.
Key Responsibilities
- You will play a key role in supporting the Council’s fire safety and building safety functions, carrying out inspections, assessments and providing accurate technical advice relating to fire safety within residential properties and communal areas.
- The role will involve undertaking fire safety inspections, building assessments and site visits, identifying fire safety defects, risks and breaches and providing clear recommendations for remedial works.
- You will assess buildings with particular consideration to compartmentation, fire doors, fire stopping, means of escape, protected routes and fire-resisting construction, ensuring identified risks are appropriately addressed.
- You will use your knowledge of CP3 principles, building construction and fire safety to assess existing buildings, particularly older housing stock, and identify areas where construction or alterations may affect fire performance.
- You will work closely with contractors, building surveyors, housing teams, property services, compliance teams and other internal stakeholders to ensure fire safety works are correctly identified, specified and progressed.
- You will monitor works on site, assess the quality and adequacy of remedial measures, identify defective or incomplete works and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
- You will provide accurate technical information, inspection findings and recommendations relating to fire safety, maintaining appropriate records and producing clear reports for senior colleagues.
- The role will involve attending properties and sites as required, liaising with residents, contractors and colleagues to investigate fire safety concerns and support effective resolution.
- You will support the wider Building Safety and Fire Safety function by providing specialist technical input into inspections, risk assessments, planned works and building improvement programmes.
Your Experience
- Significant experience working as a Fire Officer, Fire Safety Officer, Fire Risk Assessor, Building Safety Officer or similar role within a Local Authority, social housing, fire safety or property environment.
- Strong experience undertaking fire safety inspections, building assessments and identifying fire safety defects within residential buildings and communal areas.
- Good knowledge of building construction, fire safety principles, compartmentation and fire-resisting construction, particularly within existing and older residential buildings.
- Strong working knowledge of CP3 principles and their application to existing buildings, means of escape and compartmentation.
- Experience preparing clear technical reports, inspection findings, schedules of remedial works and recommendations based on fire safety assessments.
- Proven ability to inspect and monitor contractors undertaking fire safety and building remedial works, assessing quality, compliance and progress on site.
- Strong understanding of relevant fire safety legislation, Building Regulations, Approved Document B and associated guidance and standards.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with residents, contractors, surveyors, housing teams and senior management.
- Strong IT and administrative skills, with the ability to maintain accurate fire safety records and produce clear, concise technical reports.
- A relevant qualification in Fire Safety, Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Construction, Building Safety or a related discipline would be advantageous.
